Wonderful Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend was great for so many reasons. Let me count the ways:

1. A pre-birthday brunch with the lovely Tina on Saturday morning. We went to Adams Morgan and then walked around taking pictures of the gorgeous flowers with my new camera. Yes, I got a new camera!! Thank you to Mom and Pops for the wonderful birthday gift.

2. Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Hansen! Stephanie and Mark tied the knot on Saturday, and it was so great to see them so ecstatic and in love. Not only did Stephanie look stunningly gorgeous, she made her own wedding cake. I think she has found her new calling in life. In a nontraditional exchange, the two presented cake toppers to each other. Stephanie gave Mark a plastic knight in shining armor, and Mark gave Stephanie a glass temple to represent where they first met.

3. Cherry Blossom 5k. After signing up for a lottery spot all the way back in December, Zach and I ran in the Cherry Blossom 5k Sunday. You could have not asked for better weather to run in, or a prettier course. We ran passed the Lincoln, and up and down the Memorial Bridge. We were both really psyched with our runs. My last couple 5ks had been disappointing, so I was glad I finished strong in this one.

4. Finding another great D.C. joint – Darlington House. Sunday, after the run, Zach and I met his friends at the Darlington House, just off Dupont Circle. It was three levels and each room had a different look to it. We sat in huge, plush, dining rooms chairs at a heavy table, sitting next to a fireplace and an Obama poster. Even better, the food was amazing. Highly recommend it!

Nationals Stadium

Wednesday night Zach and I went to go see the Nationals play their second game of the season. Courtesy of Zach’s new roommate, I knew we were going to have amazing seats, and weather.com was forecasting temperatures in the 80s, so I was pumped to go to the game.

I love going to see the Nats. I mean I just love it. There is nothing better than going to an amazing stadium, with gorgeous weather, enjoying a beer and hotdog with great people. You exit out of the metro, and walk straight onto Half Street. Half street is home to fans, vendors, street musicians, scalpers and an amazing heads-on view of Nationals stadium. Then you come to the Bullpen; an outside bar/music venue/corn-hole court. Zach and I stopped there first to grab a cheap beer (yes a $6 beer is cheap for baseball! How sad!), and then went to pick up our tickets.

We got to our seats, and they didn’t disappoint; behind home plate, with an excellent view of the stadium. (Oh, and great people watching of the baseball players wives/girlfriends. Those ladies were decked out!) The Nats on the other hand. . . . I realize they are not the Yankees, so I do not get to disappointed with they lose. Unfortunately, I was in line for Five Guys when they got their homerun. You have to love the underdog though.

As we metro’d home, we were actually on the friendliest metro car I have ever ridden. People were in great spirits (which was surprising with all the Philly fans – aren’t they supposed to be grumpy?). We even had a man address the whole car, “now on the count of three, turn around and smile”. He was California, and doesn’t ride the metro. He wanted a little souvenir. Oh, I love D.C.!

Bridal Shower

This weekend I hopped in the car, and drove to MoCo for my wonderful friend Stephanie’s bridal shower. Although many have recently become engaged, Stephanie is the first of my high school friends to be getting married. Her sister threw the most hi-tech shower I have ever been too. She prepared a slide show of engagement photos, mixed in with a video quiz featuring Steph’s fiancĂ© Mark. Seriously, I think any girl can admit that shower activities are kind of silly, but the multimedia was impressive!

I had such a great time, because not only did I get to celebrate with Stephanie, but a bunch of my other high school friends came who I hadn’t seen in awhile. I think the true sign of a great friend is no matter the time apart since you have last seen each other (2 hours or 2 years), you can pick off right where you left. I am so lucky to have friends like those!
