Weekend Rundown

I am going to be traveling like a crazy person in October and November, so I had aggressive goals for this weekend: Do a lot of nothing, and eat some Chipotle. I managed to accomplish both of these things without being a complete shut in.

This week Netflix released the last season of How I Met Your Mother, and Zach and I finished binge watching it this weekend. Don't worry, I won't ruin the ending for those who have too much of a life to not binge watch the series, but yes, I was disappointed with it like the rest of the fans. The rest of the season was enjoyable though.

Today Zach and I drove over to Old Town Alexandria for lunch. We don't get over there enough, but every time we do it brings back so many happy memories from our wedding weekend. We discovered this store Lucky Knot which was a preppy paradise. Pat us on the back, we only walked out with a koozie.

Now its almost time to some crockpot chili before another week begins. Happy weekend everyone!

Since I graduated Elon I have bounced around to many different apartments. It was never my goal to move every single year, but somehow it just worked out that way. So its funny now that the apartment I have lived in the longest has been a cramped studio with my husband and 11-year-old springer spaniel. We celebrated our one-year living in the city last week and here are a few observations I have picked up in my year studio city living.

Being able to walk to everywhere is the BEST THING EVER. I'm mean every day I walk to and from to work. Even when it was 10 below and snowing, I found it much easier to just walk then go to a metro station, hop on, get off, walk to work. Want to go to a week night concert? Sure, because we can just walk home! Bored on Tuesday, how about a nice little walk to get fro yo? It's great.

Running or walking by the Monuments never gets old. Never!

I’ve missed having a car about four times this past year. The Mama Bear Cart has made life really easy.

It’s not a perfect solution, but you have to be okay with your storage solutions when living in a studio. Yes, my crockpot is the coat closet, next to the laundry detergent and tool kit, and that is just how it is going to be.

Everywhere I go know I will see that our apartment can fit into most people’s kitchens.

Skinny, velvet hangers ... they are amazing. These guys ... rip off.

One of the few drawbacks of studio living … phone calls. It’s hard to call your girlfriends when for a long chat when you know another person has to hear that whole conversation with you.

I have a pretty great life partner when the only complaint I can think about after a year of studio living is no space for phone calls!

Wrightsville Beach, NC

This past weekend I was in Wrightsville Beach to celebrate my cousin's Bachelorette Weekend. Her bridal party is basically all family, and our family grew up going to the beach together about a half an hour away from Wrightsville, so it was a nice little trip down not-quite memory lane.

Wrightsville's beach is huge. Our condo was on the seventh floor, overlooking the ocean, and it just seemed like the beach and the water went on for days (even at high tide). I was very impressed!

Drew just wanted a relaxing weekend at the beach and I think we accomplished that. Friday after we all got in we headed to a Mexican restaurant downtown. It kind of looked like a dive but the food was delicious. We then went back to the condo and surprised her with a honeymoon shower. She's now dressed to impress for any tropical location they may choose for their honeymoon.

Friday it rained like cats and dogs, and Saturday morning we woke up to fog that limited us from seeing two feet in front of us. It wasn't looking good but by 9:00 am the sun came out and it turned out to be a perfect beach day. We sat on the beach for 8 hours and didn't have to worry about fighting for a good spot on the beach or having to move our stuff back because the surf was coming in. The definition of a relaxing day. After the beach we got all dolled up and hopped in the limo for dinner in downtown Wilmington. The food was delicious and ambiance made me feel like we were in New York.

The majority of my cousin's bridal party is older, so we felt bad that we might be a bit boring. Turns out my cousin loves to go to strip clubs, so that was the final surprise of the evening. People watching at its finest people. She seemed genuinely shocked and had a great evening. Mission accomplished.

Three weeks to go till the wedding!

Lately

So we are officially 2.5 weeks into the Fall semester. The first three weeks of each semester are the busiest for me. I talk to so many people, back to back to back to back, I tend to end the day with a blank, completed fried, unable to think, look on my face. Almost made it!

I know D.C. will jump back up to its usual September swelter, but we have had a great couple days of a Fall preview this week. I was eating a fresh made of bowl of white chicken chili while rocking my quarter-zip, and it felt great.

Friday I head down to Wrightsville Beach to celebrate my fabulous cousin’s bachelorette party. Champagne labels have been designed, and black dress is packed.

And I’ll leave you with a picture from our Labor Day run. Don’t my arms look darn sexy? I’m trying to concentrate on that on not on the fact that all I want is Chick-fil-a right now.
