Mid-Week Check In

It's still cold out there folks.
I met with my group for my Digital Marketing class yesterday. They are so young! We have to create a blog, so FYI for the people who read this one, I'm going to ask you to click on it when its up and running.
On that note, 72 days until I'm 30 :0
I'm going with Zach to the Car Show tonight. I will probably only know about one car there.
My sister-in-law got us obsessed with Alex & Sierra from X Factor.

2014 in Pictures - Week 4

My cousin and her husband had business in D.C. this weekend and luckily we got to have them as house guests ... yes it is possible to have house guests in a studio!! We were able to catch up, go to fun restaurants, and have plenty of veg time drinking wine and watching House of Cards. It was a perfect weekend. I'm very thankful to have cousins that I consider such great friends. Miss you all already!

Book of the Month - January

Now that I don't have my time on the Metro anymore, I have seriously slacked on my reading. I have resolved to read one book a month, and this month I read Where Did You Go, Bernadette, by Maria Semple. Loved it! Where Did You Go is about an eccentric woman who disappears after a confrontation with her husband. The narrator is her daughter Bee, and the story unfolds through emails, letters, and faxes between all the characters. Maybe it is my short attention span, but I love books with the short chapters, so this was really easy to move through. The story always kept you on your toes, I definitely didn't expect how the plot was going to unfold. 2014 is off to a great start, I would definitely recommend this one. Any suggestions for the rest of the year?

2014 in Pictures - Week 3

This week we cashed in the Capitols tickets that we won at Zach's company Christmas party. When I first moved to D.C. you could probably find $10 tickets to a Caps game, but for the past couple of years it has been the hottest ticket in town. We were sitting 3 rows off the ice and it was awesome!!

P.S. - when did sports fans get so ugly? Shouldn't you be cheering on your team, not focusing on taunting the other team? Our seats were so close it seemed like we were 2 feet away from the fight that broke out on ice. The opposing player went in the penalty box next to us and the Caps fans around us were taunting him merciscly. I know professional sports players get payed millions, but still ... they are human! I just can't stand this ugliness. Thank you, I will step of the soap box now :)

Weekend With the In-Laws

Like I mentioned earlier, my in-laws came for a visit this past weekend. I stressing to think of fun activities to do in D.C. in the middle of the winter, but we managed to be on the go the entire weekend.

Friday after work they met us at our apartment and we gave them the grand tour (it took less than 30 seconds). Then we were off to 14th street, the neighborhood closest to our apartment that is filled with all these new, really great looking restaurants. We did a little 14th Street tour: beer and mac & cheese sticks at Birch & Barley; avocado salad and the most delicious sausage pizza you have ever tasted at Ghibellina; and then wine and french fries at Cork.

Saturday we gave them the glimpse of Zach tour. We walked around American, and drove over to his new office. The National Cathedral is very close to American so we decided to go in. I have always wanted to see the cathedral from the inside, and wow, it was simply stunning. If you are in the area I strongly recommend it. In the evening we did a little rainy, window shopping in Georgetown and then did drinks and appis at JPauls while we watched some of the football games.

Sunday started with church and breakfast in Georgetown. We then rented Capital BikeShare bikes and showed them around Crystal City. We then biked on the Mt. Vernon Trail and headed to Gravely Point, a park that stands right next to Reagan airport and the Potomac River. You can see the water, the Washington Monument, and planes taking off and landing. It really is a sight. I personally was more impressed that I biked on such a busy trail, but I am glad we could show his parents one of the coolest parks of the city. We capped off the weekend at Lauriol Plaza, per my father-in-law's request (and obviously we were more than happy to oblige).

It was great to be able to show them more of our lives in D.C., and spend a relaxing weekend together before the craziness of baseball begins. I can't believe in less than a month spring training!

Chunky Monkey Shake

With the new year there is always a renewed call to be healthier. In my house this meant my husband driving to storage to pull out our blender and juicer. We have started the last two weeks out with this green juice situation that I surprisingly don't hate. I tried to put my pintrest obsession to good use and found this recipe as a good substitute our our evening ice cream. It's super easy, very filing, and not low in calories but good calories. Just a cup of chocolate milk, a medium banana, a tablespoon of peanut butter, and ice blended up. Cheers!

Scandal

There are a few major generalizations I can make from my Facebook feed. I know many Ravens fans, Eagles fans, teachers, new mothers, and people that are OMG crazed over the TV show Scandal. Thanks to Netflix, I recently picked up the show from the beginning, and Facebook feed, you are so right. The show is super addicting.

Reasons why I am fully caught up on the show in only a matter of weeks?

  • Amazing D.C. b-roll, and you know I love my city.
  • Kerry Washington is a great actress, who just happened to babysit my boss' daughter, and her outfits are fabulous on the show.
  • The plot twists are crazy, but I am pretty sure they probably happen in real life.
  • Each episode makes you say, "WHAT?" and leaves you wanting more.
It's handled.

2014 in Pictures - Week 1

I decided to post one photo a week to document 2014. They might not be the most exciting, or artistic photos, but they will highlight everything here and there that I get into this year.

January 2. 2014
It was the first snow of the year, but more importantly it was 4 degrees outside. No, I am not complaining, just recording. I feel awful for you mid-westerners that haven't seen above Zero this week!

Bring it on 2014!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2014 is a beautiful and exciting year for each and everyone of you. I'm not much of a resolution person, but I have set some goals that I would like to hold my self accountable for in the New Year. Here are a few:

Read one book a month
Now that I walk to work I don't have that set 30 minutes a day where I would usually be reading. I feel like my brain needs more activity, so I needed to make this a goal.

Expand Cheers with Love
I feel like I had a really great first year, but I want to expand the shop and see if I can get more business.

Save Money!
Since the wedding, I have not been good at saving money. Now that we are in this apartment I want to make sure we are doing the best to pay down debt, and save $$ on top of that. Zach and I are doing a reverse 52 week challenge (Put $52 in a jar the first week of the year, $51 the next, all the way down to $1 on the last week of December). If all goes as plan that should be close to $1,400 to pay for Christmas and our extensive 2014 wedding travel.

Continue to Explore D.C. and Try New Things
We won't be in the middle of the city forever, so I really want to take advantage of where we live and see and do as much as we can.

Best of luck on your resolutions. Bring it on 2014!
