The first lady up was my future sis, Becky. She married her college sweetheart, Rankin, in Fort Worth, TX this past weekend. As most of Zach's family gatherings are, it was a really beautiful weekend full of wonderful people!
We kicked off the festivities on Friday with a Bridesmaids shower in downtown Fort Worth, thrown by the Mother of the Groom's best friends. They are from a SMALL town in Texas, and could NOT be nice nicer people. Seriously ... I could sit and talk with Rankin's mother for hours on end. Becky was sweet to not get upset when our little nephew James David totally stole the show. This is the first time most of Zach's family met the little guy so he was getting passed around and adored the entire weekend.
Friday night I met up with Zach at the church. After a successful rehearsal we picked up my mom at the hotel and headed to the Fort Worth Zoo for their rehearsal dinner. The Starkey rented a beautiful room and had several animals make appearances throughout cocktail hour. A penguin in Texas, who knew? The decor was stunning. Rankin's mom had collected dozens of different cowboy boots and they were filled with gorgeous flowers. Got to love that Texas decor. Both families love themselves some speeches, so the end of the night was capped off with a general love fest.
Saturday the ladies all got our hair done did at the hotel and headed to the church. We waited a fairly long time to get Becky into her dress, so we were only 15 minutes till game time when the rest of us got dressed. Then it happened ... a bridesmaid's dress was ordered too small and we had about 6 hands trying to help a girl into her dress (I mean these dresses left no room for error). Five minutes until we had to walk down the aisle the zipper broke and were at a loss. This experience has definitely taught me - those emergency kits are necessary!! After a little bit of thinking I took out my black running leggings I had worn to the shirt. We cut them up and safety pinned a patch to go along the broken part of the dress. With her arm by her side you couldn't tell anything was wrong!! To Becky's credit, she did not freak out, and we got her down the aisle just fine.
The ceremony was lovely, and the groom cried as she walked down the aisle. Their reception was in the hotel ballroom of the hotel where everyone was staying, so that was nice. Becky had done a lot of DIY projects (flowers, napkins, favors, etc...) and it came together beautifully. Keeping true to their Cinqo da Mayo wedding date, they served margaritas and had a Texas Tech pinata.
